Europe has one of the most depleted environments in the world, however nature is one of the most resourceful forces in the world and will bounce back if given the chance that's why we are committed to undoing the damage caused by the previous generations and mega - corporations.
As stated in the environment page we planned (under the first climate law)on being climate neutral by the start of this year whilst we have surpassed this goal we believe we are extremely close, and according to our new promises in last years budget we intend to be climate neutral on January 1st 2051.
Our first line of defence against the worst effects of climate change is Trees, these are natures climate fighters. As such we have numerous initiatives to help the member states grow their forests not just for oxygen but also to grow biodiversity and diversify the plant and animal life living in our rural areas. As apart of the wilding initiative the EU is:
Subsidising landowners to grow native deciduous trees
Spreading awareness through our Education Programmes
Setting targets for each country on how many trees they are to plant , this decade 4 billion trees will be planted on top of the 4 billion planted in the last decade.
Buying new land for nature reserves
Re - introducing animals into our new reserves
Putting forward new guidelines on how to properly plan a forest
An additional funding of 5 million for parks and streets across the EU to be lined with trees
The EU's ecosystems can't function unless every element is functioning. That's why pollinators are so important and to help keep our pollinators on the upward trend the EU is:
Giving out wildflower packs specifically designed by our climate scientists for every area of the EU from the Boreal climate of the north to the hot lowlands of the Mediterranean and the rainy boglands of the north - west. Including only flowers native to wherever your ordering from.
The EU has focused quite centrally on having renewable energy and to do this we have set up the EuroGrid to supply the EU with renewable energy. 70 new Nuclear power plants which now contribute an overall 71% of EU energy and solar farms 17% and 11.6% Hydro-electricity, whilst 0.4% is Fossil Fuels an immense crackdown on this with huge fines towards countries reliant on the non - renewables (Bulgaria, Slovakia) amounting to 400 million.
