The loss of cultural and national identity is a problem that has always existed as countries adopt a nationalised identity without focus on regional customs and traditions. This problem of "culture - loss" has always existed throughout the EU's 57 year existence. This problem has only been worsened through the growing number of EU member states and globalisation.
Due to the globalisation the usage of dominant languages such as Spanish, French, German and English, had caused minority languages to become endangered and in rare cases extinct. The rise of Pop - Culture, usage of digital device, global commerce, migration and younger generations lesser spoken languages.
Digital exclusion is an occurance when digital platforms, AI models and translation engines (eg google translate) focus on high usage languages (eg French, English, Spanish), while minority languages (eg Irish, Latvian, Maltese) do not receive the same treatment. They had received poor speech analysis, text recognition as well as many other problems. Without these languages having proper smartphone functions younger generations have been less likely to use the language.
Though this challenge persists, many initiatives and policies have been introduced to combat it. See current Culture & Language initiatives here
